Scharendijke

Why we enjoy Scharendijke

Scharendijke is not a manufactured resort but a quiet Zeeland village with a harbour, restaurants and short routes to the water. Both the sheltered Grevelingenmeer and the wide North Sea beaches at Brouwersdam are easy to reach.

For us, that combination is ideal: cycle to the sea in the morning, relax in the garden in the afternoon and walk into the village for dinner. For a livelier outing, Renesse and historic Zierikzee are both within easy reach.

What to see around Scharendijke

Our three favourite starting points for a relaxed day by and on the water.

Stand-up paddleboarding on the Grevelingenmeer near Scharendijke

Grevelingenmeer

Its calm salt water is well suited to swimming, SUP, sailing and snorkelling. Well-known dive sites sit around the harbour, with shallow entries along parts of the shore for children.

Wide North Sea beach at Brouwersdam

Brouwersdam & North Sea beach

A wide sandy beach, plenty of space and many water sports providers. We choose Brouwersdam for a long beach day, a surf lesson or an evening watching the sunset.

Marina on the Grevelingenmeer

Village, harbour & Koepeltje

A village walk combines well with the harbour and the Het Koepeltje viewpoint, which opens onto a broad view over the Grevelingenmeer.

A relaxed day in Scharendijke

A simple holiday rhythm that we recommend to couples and families alike.

  1. 1

    Morning

    Cycle to Brouwersdam

The beach is quiet early in the day. Bikes work especially well for the short journey; swimwear, a windbreak and a little food are all you need for an easy start.

  2. 2

    Afternoon

    Grevelingenmeer or a garden break

If you still have energy, rent a SUP or explore the harbour. On windy days, the sheltered Grevelingenmeer is often more comfortable than the open North Sea.

  3. 3

    Evening

    Walk into the village

We like to eat in the village for a relaxed evening. For sunset, take the short trip back to Brouwersdam or stay by the Grevelingenmeer.

Our personal tips

Not an exhaustive ranking, but places and ideas that work well for our guests.

Eating in the village

Surf-Inn is relaxed and family-friendly; Da Roberto and Leonardo's are useful choices when the group wants Italian food or pizza.

Try a water sport

Brouwersdam has lessons and rentals for windsurfing, kitesurfing, SUP and more. In Scharendijke, diving in the clear Grevelingenmeer is especially popular.

A rainy-day plan

A wander through Zierikzee, a visit to Deltapark or a quiet sauna day at the house are good alternatives when the beach is off the agenda.
